Marking progress over time
Taking Doris for a walk on the beach the other day, we walked about halfway round Beadnell Bay. As the tide was in, there was a section which is fenced off where the terns are nesting, so taking the path onto the sand dunes, we found a sign.
It was a public science project asking people to take photos of the spot so that scientists can see the changes over time. And it made me think how this can be useful in our own lives, tracking the small changes, looking at where things we're happy with, where we're really pleased with the progress we've made. Maybe we need to give ourselves a pat on the back.
And maybe sometimes looking at where things have strayed a little bit, whether through things just not going our way, or things we've not paid quite as much attention to as we could have.
The sign offered an insight in to the usefulness in our own lives of looking back and seeing where we've been and where we are now. Being kind to ourselves regardless.
