We thought the second fish was dead

The garden is a little neglected, and the pond overgrown. I've been doing some work recently to try and reclaim it.

There's only been one fish visible for the last couple of years. There were two originally, but we didn't see one for the whole of last year or this year.

The pond's a little neglected, but the fish gets fed occasionally and the water's kept topped up. I've recently cleaned out some weed and topped up the water, tried to make it a bit more habitable.

Yesterday, whilst taking weed out, I accidentally found a frog. I haven't seen a frog for years. The newts took over the pond and drove the frogs away because newts eat frog spawn. So the fact a frog was back was brilliant, shows the pond's recovering.

This evening I've come to feed the fish and I'm delighted to discover that the one fish is happy and healthy, and the second fish, thought long dead for the last 18 months, has suddenly appeared. It keeps itself in the depths of the pond. It's always been a little bit shyer, but somehow managed to keep itself alive and flourishing in the pond environment.

Animals are such magnificent survivors in the right environment. The same goes for us humans.

So whether you're like the goldfish that likes to be out in the world and not afraid to be seen, or more like the fish that prefers to hide away, what do you need to flourish in your environment? What is it that draws you out into the wider world to be truly seen?
